Five Friends has been selected to screen in New Delhi, India for the 2nd Annual Men Engage Global Symposium 2014. Seventy films have been selected for the Symposium’s global film festival on masculinities specially curated by the International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) India.
A rigorous process of evaluation took place over several months to select films/videos that reflect and explore the key themes of the Symposium, which would be useful in initiating discussions around masculinities: how these masculinities interact with gender, culture and society; and how they reinforce – or sometimes challenge! – patriarchy or other hierarchies.
The 70 selected films include long and short documentaries, short fiction and features, community videos, animation, music videos etc. There is no restriction in terms of genre or duration, however the films/videos fit into one or more of the seven tracks of the Symposium. Works from countries as diverse as Nicaragua, Israel, Malawi, Nepal, Japan, Denmark, Afghanistan and India find representation in the film festival which is sure to unlock the imagination and provide fodder for thought.
